Welcome to the homepage of the Ruhr2010 Cultural Capital of Europe project.
Castrop-Rauxel ... ein Gedicht
and
Europe … a poem
In 2010 the town of Castrop-Rauxel, on the northern border of Dortmund, will be presenting two interlinked poetry exhibitions, entitled “Castrop-Rauxel … ein Gedicht (lit: a poem)” and “Europe … a poem”.
The two exhibitions will be enhanced by a series of poetry events throughout the year, like rap, poetry and jazz evenings, and live readings.
The idea behind "Castrop-Rauxel ... ein Gedicht" is to present 2010 poems in the German language (including those translated into German) in a public exhibition throughout the town, in shops and on lanterns, trees etcetera. The vast majority of these will be poems by well-known published authors, past and present. But we are reserving space for around 500 poems from would-be poets who would like to suggest a poem of their own.
"Europe ... a poem", by contrast, is an indoor exhibition in the Bürgerhaus, intended to publicise contemporary poetry as a vibrant part of today's European culture, emphasise that is written by living people whose work enriches our everyday lives, and introduce us to 27 major poets throughout the whole of the European Union - including two Nobel Prize winners - most of whom are sadly still unknown to us.
